Local Shopping Needs

The Council’s own Retail Study identifies that a low level of expenditure generated in the local area is currently spent in local stores and identifies a need to address this through the provision of new retail facilities within Maltby.

Although the new Aldi store on Muglet Lane will help to improve quality and choice to some extent, this is an out of centre store which will compete with the Town Centre.

In contrast, the former fire station and library site is located directly adjacent to both the Town Centre and the existing Tesco store and in practice will function as part of the Town Centre, attracting shoppers to this part of the town, helping Maltby to maintain its market share in the face of new competition and helping to improve this centre.
